Our free talks at our Expos provide you with up-to-date information from trusted, experienced experts and the ideal opportunity to have all your questions answered, to alleviate your fears or concerns.

The schedule below shows the talk schedule for our 2019 Expo. Please check in closer to our next event in Brisbane on June 26-28, 2020 for an updated talk schedule.

Our FREE antenatal classes each run for 40 minutes, run by Liz Wilkes, our PBCE Midwife in Residence, an informed, supportive and qualified midwife from My Midwives, with over 20 years experience.

Places are limited so we suggest arriving 10 minutes prior to the class to avoid disappointment.

Australian Breastfeeding Association is Australia’s leading authority on breastfeeding. 

This talk will cover key information, such as the benefits of breastfeeding, the let down reflex, supply and demand feeding and how to know if your baby is getting enough breast milk, positioning and attachment, and more. You'll also hear about the support available to help you with your breastfeeding journey.

Specialist Speaker: Liz Wilkes PBC Expo Midwife in Residence

In this class we cover how to get ready for birth and baby.

This class gives women and their support people, a showcase of resources and strategies to practice for great birth. Hands on techniques will be demonstrated and discussed. We will discuss preparing the home and preparing to feed your baby as well.

Finding out you are pregnant brings with it a whole lot of questions and confusions...so what do you do next? Where do I go for advice? Who is right and who is wrong?  

This first class in our antenatal series covers the steps you take through your pregnancy, some of the choices and decisions you will have to make and offers information on various newer options such as hypnobirthing and water birth.  

This talk covers:

  • What happens when you find out you are pregnant
  • Where to go next
  • Choosing a care provider
  • Choosing a place of birth
  • Information about screening tests and newer testing procedures
  • Your pregnancy visits and what they cover
  • What choices you will face getting closer to birth including induction, caesarean, epidural, water birth
  • Resources to assist you to prepare including antenatal classes and hypnobirthing

This class is the first in our series of classes on each day of Expo and is a great place to start the journey with us.

Specialist Speaker: Kristy Newnham Qualified Nurse & Lactation Consultant

40% of mums stop breastfeeding as they think their baby is not getting enough from breastfeeding alone.

Join Kristy, a qualified nurse and lactation consultant from Medela, as she talks through what’s normal in the first few days and weeks after birth, and what’s normal for the older infant aged 1-6 months when it comes to breastfeeding, and how you will know your baby is getting enough.

With these unique skills and experience, Tracy designed the Know Your Child System to help parents and early childhood educators understand children at the crucial age of development of 0-5years. She has written a number of toilet training resources for both parents and children.

Specialist Speaker: Infant Nursery Product Alliance of Australia

The Infant and Nursery Products Alliance of Australia (INPAA) session gives insight into the challenge of buying a pram or a cot.

This talk discusses options available, the safety of products and it aims to take confusion out of the process which will assist you to make the right choice for your needs. INPAA is a leading safety advocate and is a member of the standards committee for children’s consumer products. This session won’t give you all the answers but it will give you the questions you need to ask before you decide on what product to buy.

Specialist Speaker: Ambassadors from The Parentmedic Movement

This medical talk covers what every parent should know before bringing baby home.

This talk will provide parents with the "red flags" to identify when their child needs medical help. A trained Parentmedic Ambassador will provide what to look out for, and who to get help from. These topics are the top reasons a parent will go to an emergency room or rush to their local GP in fear and needing help.

Know what you need to know to help when these times occur. Topics covered:

1.Identify when baby is not breathing properly
2. Baby's first fever
3. Dehydration
4. Rashes

All Parentmedic Ambassadors complete a 6 week online course and meet certain criteria to ensure they are providing up-to-date information in First Aid and Safety. Ambassadors come from a range of backgrounds in health and education.

Specialist Speaker: Still Aware volunteer

Still Aware is the only not-for-profit organization in Australia dedicated to raising awareness of stillbirth.

This talk will cover:

  • Baby’s development
  • Practical ways and suggested methods to discover the best way to get to know who your baby is and their personality before birth

This is useful and protective advice suitable for mums, dads and partners to actively do to get to know their baby and create positive parenting inutero.

Red Nose has been advising new parents in Australia on safe sleeping for babies for 40 years. This safe sleep talk informs parents and carers on how to reduce the risk of SIDS, stillbirth, miscarriage and fatal sleep accidents for babies and toddlers in their care.

The presentation will cover Red Nose’s six evidence-base safe sleeping recommendations:

  • Why they recommend sleeping baby on their back
  • Why you should keep your baby’s head and face uncovered
  • The risks of smoking before and after your baby’s birth
  • What is a safe sleeping environment and how you can recreate this at home
  • Why you should sleep your baby in your room
  • The benefits of breastfeeding
  • Ask the midwives: your antenatal and safe sleeping questions answered
